A step-by-step guide to navigating the claims process
File a claim when you experience a covered loss that exceeds your deductible — car accident, theft, fire, water damage, or any event your policy covers. Report the claim as soon as possible — most policies require prompt notification.
💡 When NOT to File
If the damage is minor and close to your deductible amount, consider paying out of pocket. A claim on your record can increase your rates at renewal. For example, if your deductible is $500 and the repair is $600, it may not be worth filing for a $100 payout.
Make sure everyone is safe. Call 911 if there are injuries. Move to a safe location if possible. Turn on hazard lights.
Take photos/videos of all damage, the scene, license plates, and road conditions. Get names and contact info of all parties and witnesses.
For accidents, call the police and get a report number. A police report is critical evidence for your claim. In California, you must report accidents with injuries or $1,000+ in damage to the DMV (SR-1 form).
Call FasTrak Insurance at (323) 537-2083 as soon as possible. We'll guide you through the process and file the claim with your carrier on your behalf.
Be cooperative but don't apologize or admit fault at the scene. Let the insurance companies and police determine fault based on evidence.
Get 2-3 repair estimates. Your insurer may send an adjuster or direct you to approved repair shops.
The insurance company will make a settlement offer. Review it carefully — you can negotiate if you believe it's too low. Don't sign anything you don't understand.
Once the claim is approved, get your vehicle repaired. Keep all receipts. If using a rental car, confirm it's covered by your policy.
Our licensed agents shop multiple carriers to find you the best coverage at the lowest price. Hablamos Español.
Most policies require "prompt" notification — typically within 24-72 hours for auto claims. Property claims may allow more time. However, file as soon as possible to avoid complications.
Not-at-fault claims generally don't raise rates. At-fault claims typically increase rates for 3-5 years. One claim usually has less impact than multiple claims. Talk to us about your specific situation.
If the other driver is at fault and their insurance won't cooperate, your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage kicks in. This is why we always recommend carrying UM/UIM coverage.
In California, you have the right to choose your own repair shop. Your insurer may recommend preferred shops, but you're not required to use them.
